Aroid Plant Care Instruction Manual

Welcome to the Shooting Roots family!

Aroids (like Monsteras, Philodendrons, and Anthuriums) are stunning tropical plants. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your new plant thriving.

☀️ Light

  • Bright, Indirect Light: Place your plant near a bright window out of direct, harsh sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
  • Variegated Plants (Like the Monstera Albo): White/variegated leaves lack chlorophyll and require more bright, indirect light than solid green plants to maintain their striking patterns and avoid reverting to green.

💧 Watering

  • Check Before You Pour: Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Indoor plants like a “dry-wet” cycle.
  • Drainage is Key: Water thoroughly until it runs out the bottom of the pot. Never let your plant sit in a saucer of water (this prevents root rot).
  • Winter Care: Reduce watering frequency during the cooler, winter months.

🪴 Soil & Potting

  • Chunky Mix: Aroids love “airy” roots. If you repot, use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix (our blend is ideal) and can be purchased here.
  • Don’t Rush to Repot: Let your new plant acclimate to your home for a few weeks before changing its pot.

☁️ Humidity & Temperature

  • Tropical Vibes: Aroids love humidity (ideally 60%+). Boost humidity by grouping plants together, using a humidifier, or placing the pot on a pebble tray with water.
  • Keep it Cozy: Maintain room temperatures between 18°C and 30°C.
  • Avoid Drafts: Keep away from air conditioners, heaters, and cold drafts.

🪜 Support & Growth

  • Give them a Climb: Climbing aroids (like the Monstera Borsigiana) develop much larger, mature leaves when given something to climb.
  • Use a Grow Pole: We highly recommend securing the stem to a moss pole, trellis, or one of our custom Shooting Roots Natural Hemp rope Grow Poles to support upward growth.

🧪 Feeding

  • Spring & Summer: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half-strength once a month during the active growing season.
  • Autumn & Winter: Stop fertilizing when growth slows down.

⚠️ A Note on Variegation & Browning

  • It is completely natural for the pure white sections of “Albo” plants to occasionally develop brown spots over time, as these areas do not photosynthesize. To minimize this, ensure optimal lighting, avoid overwatering, and maintain high humidity.
  • Toxicity: Please note that aroids are generally toxic if ingested. Keep them out of reach of curious pets and small children.
